About Recovery is Beautiful

Each September, MHAAO hosts Recovery is Beautiful with our community partners to help individuals look and feel their best on their recovery journey. This year, MHAAO is partnering with award-winning hairstylist Allie Martinez and students at the Summit Salon Academy in Portland, OR for our annual Recovery is Beautiful makeovers. These no-cost makeovers include a haircut, color, and style - including culturally-specific services - for all hair types and gender identities, as well as the opportunity to select clothing from our Clothing Closet and take home a gift bag of self-care and wellness products. MHAAO’s aim with this event is to illustrate the beauty and strength inherent in recovery, help our peers feel beautiful inside and out, highlight our incredible community partners, and celebrate Recovery Month. 

Recovery Month celebrates the gains made by individuals in recovery from mental health and addiction/substance use challenges. Recovery is Beautiful will provide a space for community members to come together in celebration of recovery in all its forms and manifestations.
