YOUTH & YOUNG ADULT PEER MENTOR TRAINING

This certified Peer Support Specialist training focuses on the unique challenges of youth and young adults. This training has two components: 40 hours of in-class training and 20 hours of service learning. The service learning hours required offer the opportunity to practice skills and to learn and grow in an experiential setting. Graduates of this training will be eligible to apply for state certification through the Oregon Health Authority.

 

The Winter Cohort will be held in NE Portland on the following days and times:

 

Week One

  • Monday January 30th, 2017 from 9-5 PM
  • Wednesday February 1st, 2017 from 9-5 PM
  • Friday February 3rd, 2017 from 9-5 PM

 

Week Two

  • Monday February 6th, 2017 from 9-5 PM
  • Wednesday February 8th, 2017 from 9-5 PM 

 

Scholarships are available for this training program through grant funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Basic eligibility guidelines for the grant program are as follows:

 

  1. Lived experience of mental health challenges (or mental health and addiction challenges;
  2. Near-in-age Peer to Young adult; 
  3. Willing and able to complete both in-class training and service learning.

PEER WELLNESS SPECIALIST TRAINING

Mental Health Association of Oregon is pleased to announce its Oregon Health Authority approved Peer Wellness Specialist Training!

 

This 80 hour intensive training is set to take place in the greater Portland area the week of February 20, 2017. During the initial week, students will meet Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm.

 

Topics will include:

· Introduction to Peer Wellness,

· Trauma Informed Approach to Peer Support,

· Person Directed Planning and Collaboration,

· Problem Solving and Adult learning,

· And many more.

 

After the first week, students will meet once a week on Wednesdays from 9 am to 5 pm for five weeks to further develop skills and learning. This training is specifically designed to encompass whole health certification to Peer Wellness Specialists upon completion.
